An attractive perennial with brick red flowers on climbing stems which reach 5 to 6 feet in height. The top growth dies away completely in winter, so it is prudent to mark the location of the plant to avoid damaging it during the winter. Remove spent flowers regularly to prolong the flowering season. Seed is very slow to germinate.
